Carnival of Flowers in Toowoomba – The Mulberry Project Long Lunch

Another brilliant Carnival of Flowers in Toowoomba has ended, and it feels like the biggest one yet: Food, wine, flowers and Spring, are absolutely some of our favourite things!
With so many visitors from all over Queensland, the whole month of September was just amazing, and really needs to be on your radar for September 2022.
The highlight for us was collaborating with the Catering People to provide a lip-smacking entrée for the Mulberry Project Long Lunch at the RASQ showgrounds.

The Mulberry Project is a not-for-profit Charity that creates pathways to careers in farming and food for disadvantaged communities. Enormously important for many people, it is led by Louise Noble who spoke about its conception and strides forward as its successes and momentum continue to build.

The opportunity for this event was provided by Catering People, a prominent Toowoomba caterer with a strong social conscience. Led by experienced businesswoman and social entrepreneur Carmel Tulloch, the Catering People is Social Trader certified, providing training opportunities and employment pathways for all walks of life. Due to a phenomenal COVID response in 2020-21, they have been recently announced as a Finalist in the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards for Hospitality!

Catering People Head Chef Adam partnered our DF Smoke Haus smoked chicken with a delicious baba ganoush on a traditional Iraqi flatbread, which was baked onsite by local Yazidi bakers Dakhil and Nofa. This was followed by another 3 courses of absolute heaven: Merivale pork and pistachio terrine, perfect JBS rib fillet on spinach cream with veggies, and a fresh pannacotta with… you guessed it… mulberries!!

Fresh and crisp, the breads created the perfect appetiser, and Dakhil and Nofa won our hearts with their passion and genuine desire to serve others.
It was fantastic to be a part of with compliments galore on our wonderful entree, however thanks must also go to so many other local Businesses who also donated their time and product to make the event so special.

We all helped raise funds to continue the Mulberry Project’s fabulous work, and truly enjoyed the amazing wines, surplus from the Royal Agricultural Wine Show 2021. As the competition was judged the previous day, we were given a balloon glass on entry and told to ‘go for it’ (wow). We didn't know this absolute treat was on the cards: what a fantastic surprise! So we got on board with our good fortune, left the car, and enjoyed the afternoon tremendously!

Smoked chicken with baba ganoush on flatbread is delicious, spectacular and easy to make at home. Top it off with some parsley or chives for colour: pure heaven.
